FC Ifeanyi Ubah falls to Enyimba Int’l. in rescheduled NPFL matchday 9

The Anambra Warriors travelled to Calabar for the rescheduled Matchday 9 fixture of the NPFL looking to get a first away point in the game against Seven Time league champions Enyimba which coincidentally was the last Oriental Derby for the Nigerian Galacticos in the first half of the 2016/2017 Nigerian Professional Football League season.

Four changes where made to the team that lost out in Lafia and the game kicked off in a frenetic pace like all Oriental derbies and the hosts where the ones in command in the early stages of the game as Osadiaye had his shot blocked just like Obaje’s effort was cleared off the line by Akas while Mfon Udoh had his shot tremendously saved by GK Drissa Bamba to wrap up the first 15 minutes of the encounter with both sides still testing the resistance of their fellow opponents.

The next 15 minutes of the match saw The People’s Elephants, mount a sustained pressure on the Anambra Warriors with GK Bamba called to make a host of saves starting from Isiaka’s ambitious volley in the 18th minute of the game to Mustapha’s precise shot with a beautiful bicycle kick in the 26th minute by Udoh off a cross from Mustapha, to the near miss of Mustapha who’s angled effort beat the keeper but got the side of the net and Gata who’s shot on the stroke of 30mins also beat the keeper but was cleared off the line to sum up a frustrating experience for Enyimba until they finally got the breakthrough as Joseph Osadiaye left his marker for dead to head into the net from an Mfon Udoh’s cross to open the score sheet in the 32nd minute of a half that climaxed with that goal.

The second half started with Coach Yaw Preko making a double change, bringing on Onuigbo and Wasiu for Medrano and Magbisa respectively in order to spice things up as FCIU where seeking to swing the tide of the game into their favour.

And the second half, unlike the first half,  was devoid of clear cut chances until Godwin Obaje forced a corner in the 84th minute that was missed by an unmarked Onuigbo which almost was all he wrote in the second half, untill Ibrahim Mustapha took on the defence of the Anambra Warriors, rounded GK Bamba and laid it on for his captain Mfon Udoh to score and seal the game for the People’s Elephants as FC Ifeanyi Ubah will now head back home to the Fortress to prepare for our next game against El Kanemi Warriors on Sunday.
