FC Ifeanyi Ubah on Wednesday defeated Niger Tornadoes in a Nigerian Professional Football League matchday 16 clash held at the phenomenal FC Ifeanyi Ubah International Stadium in a game that was decided early in the 7th minute after Godwin Obaje got the curtain raiser and subsequently the winning goal of the match that also is the last midweek game to be played in the first half of the season at the Fortress.
The game started with the NPFL Galacticos attacking ferociously and bombarding the Tornadoes defense with lovely interplay between Seka, Ngoma and Osanga with the latter laying a pass to overlapping defender Kojo Baah who delivered an inch perfect delightful cross into the penalty box which was direct for Obaje to glance his header beyond the keeper to send the Fortress into a frenzy.
The rest of the first half was a case and foray of near misses and wasted chances as Ngoma’s long drive was deflected for a corner, minutes later Kojo Baah’s close drive was narrowly off target, Also Prince Aggreh was through on goal in the 33rd minute but opted to pass instead of trying a shot. Seka Pascal missed a sitter in the 36th minute after a pass by Obaje from the left hand side of the midfield flashed through the opposition goal begging for a connect to summarize the missed opportunities of the half.
The Second half started with both sides coming out to counter their respective opposition as the Anambra Warriors got a freekick early in the half only for Osanga’s curler to sail narrowly high. Tornadoes got their first chance of the game minutes later as Ebenezer Odeyemi’s header was caught by Goalkeeper Bamba, then Obaje got his shot saved while Osanga blasted his shot high to spoil his lovely individual dribble prior to that chance. In the 77th minute Jimoh Oni caught the run of Aggreh with a fly through pass who then dribbled Iko James, got into position and blasted high off target as Medrano got his shot saved by Goalkeeper Mustapha Aliko who had to be alert to keep out substitute Yaya Kone’s rebound to wrap up the contest.
