FC Ifeanyi Ubah returned to winning ways on Sunday at the fortress seeing of the challenge of Sunshine Stars in Matchday 16 to record a 3-1 scoreline in a very tense and entertaining game at the FC Ifeanyi Ubah International Stadium, Ozubulu-Nnewi. Coach Ladan Bosso retained nine of his starting eleven in midweek with Ebuka Nwenyi taking the place of Osia Felix while Adeboye Gabriel made way for Sadiq Abdulrazak.
The Anambra Warriors started the game on the front foot with a couple of near misses but it was the Owena Waves against the run of play that broke the deadlock in the 17th minute as a loose ball fell to Sikiru Alimi who calmly dispatched the ball beyond the reach of Goalkeeper Tambe Charles to put the visitors ahead. The Galacticos roared back into the game grabbing an equaliser less than ten minutes later precisely in the 25th minute as skipper Patrick Ikeokwu was the one who expertly buried his chance into the goal to send both teams into the tunnel on level terms.
The second half was kick started by the Akure Gunners who came out of the dressing room probing and seeking to retake the lead but the initiative was seized by the hosts as Wasiu Jimoh’s inch perfect cross in the 47th minute via a set piece was met by the outstanding Traore Issif to head the ball into the net to give FC Ifeanyi Ubah the lead.
The Warriors put the game beyond the Akure Gunners a minute past the hour mark as the lethal Chijioke Alaekwe was at the right place and at the right time to pick up the loose ball in the visitors defense and just like Alimi’s goal in the first half calmly slotted the ball beyond the reach of Goalkeeper Moses Ocheje to send the fortress into a frenzy and seal the three points.
