FC Ifeanyi Ubah on Sunday secured their first away point in the league as they were forced to a scored draw against Akwa United in Match Day 15 of the Nigerian Professional Football League played at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium Uyo with Team tactician Yaw Preko retaining an unchanged side that defeated El Kanemi in the last match day played penultimate Sunday.
The game started with the Anambra Warriors attacking early with their efforts paying off immediately as Seka Pascal’s fiercely taken shot in the 3rd minute was fumbled by Goalkeeper Olufemi Kayode which rolled into the net. Godwin Obaje almost doubled the lead in the 9th minute but his effort from a good link up play was side netted. Striker Ifeanyi Ifeanyi misses a sitter in the 16th minute from a well teed ball from Alhassan Ibrahim.
Christian Pyagbara almost scored in the 20th minute after gliding past Eze and Adeleye with his effort just inches wide off the post. Valentine Nwabili’s well taken free kick after King Osanga was fouled by Kodjovi Dadzie sailed inches over the upright. Goalkeeper Drissa Bamba was called into action as he had to be alert to parry out for a corner Aremu Afeez’s belter from about 30 yards out. Afeez would also have another brilliant effort in the 39th minute just wide for the last real act of the first period.
In the second half, Akwa United came out fighting like a wounded lion with Moses Ebiye ballooning his effort in the 48th minute. Goalkeeper Drissa Bamba pulled off another magnificent save minutes later to sustain the warriors lead. Ubong Friday’s well connected header from a quick counter attacking move in the 59th minute sailed just over. Midfielder Ngoma Luamba should have done better with his effort in the 64th minute as his shot outside the box went skyrocketing.
The home team’s pressure and push for an equalizer paid off in the 75th with Alhassan Ibrahim finishing off substitute Cyril Olisema teed ball. Stand in skipper Elu Wilson got the marching orders two minutes from time as he was adjudged to have tripped Olisema just outside the box. The Anambra Warriors hanged on despite the numerical disadvantage to secure a well deserved point in the game.
