Young Warriors of FC Ifeanyi Ubah continued their impressive run in the ongoing NPFL Under-15 tournament on Wednesday at the Dan Anyiam Stadium Owerri with an emphatic 2-1 victory over Abia Warriors teens who made their debut in the championship.
The Matchday 2 actions in Group A saw the Young Warriors of FC Ifeanyi Ubah getting a win against their counterpart from Umuahia while Rivers United defeated Akwa United 3-1 in their game which was played earlier today at the same venue.
After an evened tie and score in the first half in the tension-soaked game which Young Warriors showed their dominance, FC Ifeanyi Ubah captain Nansel Bussa inspired his side with his brace to secure the desired maximum three points for his side, His first goal came when he converted a beautiful free kick from about 28 yards and completed his brace in the 64th minute after he received a pass from Malu Valentine.
With the win, Young Warriors of FC Ifeanyi Ubah are now top of Group A with six points after winning two games with four goals scored and only one conceded.
“I am delighted we won today, it was a bit difficult for us in the first half. I am happy for the two goals and I hope to score more goals in the tournament. We played more as a team because our coach had warned us against individual play. Reacting to the win, Coach of the side attributed the result to hardwork and commitment from the players.
“I think the boy’s performance improved compared to the first game. They were also jittery in the first half today but I was impressed with their performance in the second half especially when we equalized before the end of first half. Kudos to our goalkeeper for the amazing late save. We have to work on the boys’ confidence ahead of the next game,” Coach Sunny said.
