FC Ifeanyi Ubah on Sunday took on Heartland FC of Owerri in Match Day 8 of the ongoing Nigerian Professional Football League Season at the fortress in the first Oriental Derby for the Anambra Warriors this season in a game that saw the NPFL Galacticos emerge with all three Points in a match that can be said to be one of the most entertaining game of the current NPFL season.
Coach Ladan Bosso made just one change to the side that lost to Lobi Stars in the last Match Day bringing in Maamo Joseph into the starting 11 ahead of Akinyemi Oluwaseun for his first start this season.
The game started in great intensity with both sides giving as much as they were receiving in the first twenty minutes of the game with a typical basketball paced like action that saw a couple of near misses and dynamism on display from both sides. The Naze Millionaires almost struck first blood in the 24th minute as Egbujor Nnamdi hit a beautiful volley from outside the box that beat Goalkeeper Bamba but couldn’t beat the woodwork and the rebound was cleared by Traore which led to a counter attacking move that ended with a freekick in a promising position for the Anambra Warriors.
The freekick eventually led to the goal in the 27th minute as Seka Pascal’s cross into the box was headed clear by Ubido Julius to Msonter Shimaga who then laid the ball to Seka on the left flank as he delivered a cross to Awazie Ekene to volley home and send the fortress faithful into raptures.
Heartland picked up the pace afterwards with Oparaugo Chukwudi’s effort off an Oluchukwu Nwosu’s pass well saved by GoalKeeper Bamba in the 43rd minute with Ekelojuoti’s headed effort also coming off the upright as Goalkeeper Bamba was on hand to claim the rebound as the half drew to a close.
The second period kicked off with the Anambra Warriors emerging from the tunnels with an intent to kill off the game as FC Ifeanyi Ubah pushed for the finisher as Bright was a torment on the right albeit unlucky not to have converted his rocket shot in the 47th minute, but then the goal came minutes later as Awazie Ekene after winning a corner kick for the Anambra Warriors, delivered a delightful ball into the opponents box and the mercurial Seka Pascal was at the right place at the right time to head pass Goalkeeper Orubo Japhet for the goal to seal the game.
Ekene Awazie came close to adding an icing on the cake in the 73rd minute from a counter attacking move shooting from a tight angle as he should have teed Bright Onyedikachi or Alaekwe Chijioke who were well positioned and ready to score. The Warriors did sustain the momentum to maintain the score line as the referee called time on the game.
