Young Warriors of FC Ifeanyi Ubah returned to winning ways against Shooting Stars Teens in the ongoing 2016/2017 NPFL U-15 Promises tournament on Wednesday afternoon at the Agege Stadium Lagos.
FC Ifeanyi Ubah commenced the game against Shooting Stars FC without star kid Nwafuru Arinze, who was exceptional in the first group game against Katsina United on Tuesday. FC Ifeanyi Ubah’s coaching crew re-strategized after Tuesday’s narrow defeat with minimal changes to the side.
Captain of the side Nansel Bussa continued his exploits in the championship showing the stuff he is made of after converting from 25 yards from a free kick on the dot of 20th minute mark of the first half after Shooting Stars defender Kayode Ayodele fouled Young Warrior’s Bello Babatunde, the brilliant free kick stirred spectators into rendering a loud applause for the great goal by Nansel, who also created couple of chances in the game but for poor finishing. It was a better outing for FC Ifeanyi Ubah as they neutralized all attempts towards their goal post and ensured that they maintained their one nil lead till the end of first half.
They Young Warriors returned in the second half with more attempts made on goal, with massive defense-massive attack formation strategy adopted by the technical crew, this indeed helped them to work effectively in keeping Shooting Stars at bay, and winning lots of area balls. FC Ifeanyi Ubah attacking midfielder Malu Valentine was unlucky as he fouled Shooting Stars attacker resulting to a second yellow card which culminated into a red card.
Shooting Stars forward got close to scoring from about 19 yards with FC IfeanyiUbah Goalkeeper Nzube Odiegwu pulling off a great save in the 47th minute which after kept the Young Warriors under pressure for some minutes.
In the 56th minute Shooting Stars forward Samuel Yusuf won a penalty for his side after being fouled by FC IfeanyiUbah defender Adibe Emmanuel with FCIU’s shot stopper doing the needful by making a good save.
Two minutes after a coalition involving FC IfeanyiUbah goal keeper Nzube Odiegwu who went for an area ball in six yard box missed the ball due to a body contact with Shooting Star’s striker, surprisingly the center referee pointed to the spot and also issuing a yellow card to FC Ifeanyi Ubah goal keeper, however the kick was ballooned over the bar by the kicker. The determined Young Warriors held on to secure a hard fought victory.
In his remarks after the game, Young Warriors coach Sunny Pekos thanked God for the victory and appreciated his young starlets for getting the job done perfectly as they were instructed, he however told the players that it’s not yet over until they win the trophy in the tournament, and they should focus on Niger Tornadoes match as it’s the only match which will guarantee their ticket for final on Saturday.
Young Warriors of FC Ifeanyi Ubah have so far lost one game, and won one game like other teams in the group will engage game Niger Tornadoes in their last game on Thursday by 9:30pm
