A Seka Pascal’s finish in the 42nd minute and an error by Goalkeeper Drissa Bamba in the 61st minute were the deciding moments in a rescheduled Match Day 17 Oriental Derby fixture between the People’s elephant and the Anambra Warriors played on Wednesday at the UJ Esuene Stadium Calabar.
Two changes were made to the side that saw off Go Round FC last Sunday by the Ladan Bosso’s led technical crew as Adeleye Olamilekan was dropped for Chidume Onyekachi while Sadiq Abdulrazak got the nod ahead of John Huan.
The home side still smarting from the performance in the CAF Inter Club competition came into tie oozing in confidence with a formidable side fielded against an FC Ifeanyi Ubah side seeking for their third point on the road. It was the Anambra Warriors who would take the lead in 42nd minute with Seka Pascal following up a floated ball from Goalkeeper Bamba Drissa from a goal kick as the Ivorian outpaced Nelson Ogbonnaya and Isiaka Oladuntoye slotting the ball into the bottom left corner of the post beyond Eagles’ Goalkeeper Ikechukwu Ezenwa who was in between the sticks.
The People’s Elephant evened the tie as Goalkeeper Drissa Bamba who was topclass in the game conceded while making an acrobatic save with the ball somehow crossing the line as the referee pointed to the centre. Both sides created handful of changes with pockets of opportunities failed to be converted in an entertaining half as the game came to an end.
