FC Ifeanyi Ubah returned to regular football action on Wednesday with a 2-1 score line defeat to fellow CAF Confederations Cup contenders Wikki Tourist of Bauchi in the NPFL Super 4 competition holding at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium Enugu.
The Anambra Warriors made several changes to the side that won the finals of last seasons’ Federation Cup with only 3 players in the starting XI retaining their shirts. The match also offered opportunities for FC Ifeanyi Ubah new recruits to earn their debut for the club. Newly recruited shotstopper Bamba Drissa started in between the sticks for the Anambra Warriors while the likes of Eric Darko, Siba Adams, Wisdom Magnus, Kone Yaya and Osanga king all got the nod.
The Atmosphere was frenetic as both sides started the encounter with a feeling out process and trying to test the strength of the other opposing defense as twice in the Space of 20minutes, FC Ifeanyi Ubah had a shot by Seka Pascal cleared of the line likewise Wikki Tourists having a Shot off the boots of Shamah Tanze being cleared off the line by big defender Akakem Onyekachi to give the Federation Cup Champions a reprieve as the rest of the first half saw reduced pressure from both sets of attacking teams and a relatively quiet encounter from both keepers except the few saves of Malian Goalie Bamba Drissa summed up the first half that had little or nothing except statistics to separate the teams going into the break.
The Players Emanated from the Locker Rooms with Manager Kenichi Tatsuhashi’s words still fresh in their ears as they settled brilliantly into the half taking the lead via beautiful play and fluid passing from the defence to the attack until Wikki’s Abdullahi Musa felled King Osanga in the penalty box that led to another new signing Yaya Kone stepping up and converting to give the Anambra Warriors the initiative in the encounter.
The game’s turning point was when Akakem Onyekachi got a second yellow card leading to his sending off and led to Wikki throwing their all into the counter attack which paid off leading to The equalizer via a lovely volley from Shamah Tanze of an Abdullahi Musa aerial Pass, and Abdullahi proved himself to be the main catalyst of the fixture sealing the win for the Yankari Boys with his Shot which was virtually the last kick of the game giving the three points and the victory to Wikki Tourists.
In the second match of the day NPFL Champions Rangers Int’L defeated Rivers Utd by 2 goals to nil. Meanwhile FC Ifeanyi Ubah’s next game is on Friday against Rivers United, as Anambra Warriors has vowed to come back with a Rivers United with a must win mentality.
